CORPORATION WATCH — Shining a Spotlight on Corporate Pathology

About the Corporation Watch e-mail list

Most media coverage of corporations comes from "embedded" reporters who identify with and seldom question the underlying assumptions of corporate culture and orthodox economics.

Despite this overwhelming example of "groupthink" and the pro-corporate propaganda it produces, there is nonetheless a daily litany of articles in both the mainstream and alternative press about the nature and effects of corporate power, influence, crime, and abuse.

These articles tend to be published individually and in separate locations, and are rarely linked together or analyzed the way other news items are — to reveal a pattern or practice that demands further scrutiny, public debate, or even corrective action.

Instead, they tend to "hide in plain sight" until a major corporate scandal or economic crisis occurs seemingly without warning, and people are left wondering why they'd never heard anything about it until it was too late.

The Corporation Watch e-mail list is intended to draw attention to (and serve as a compendium of) these disparate articles, dispel the notion that most corporations are "good", and use their recurrent sociopathic behavior as evidence of the need for pre-emptive action.

It is hard to read the articles on Corporation Watch and come away believing that corporations are benevolent — or even benign — or that their predations are simply the price their victims must pay to participate in an exploitative, unjust, inhumane, and barely functional global economic system.
