Dear CounterCorp supporter,
Yes, it's even closer. The 2007 CounterCorp Anti-Corporate Film
Festival kicks off exactly ONE week from today, and while we wish we
had another two months to get ready, we're excited to be just seven
days away from our 2nd Annual Festival.
In case you didn't read the e-mail we sent out last week, we want to
remind everyone that the CounterCorp Festival runs Oct. 18-20 --
that's next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, at the Victoria Theatre
(the same venue as last year), 2961 16th Street (at Mission Street),
across from the 16th Street/Mission BART station.
We've posted the complete SCHEDULE -- and TRAILERS -- for the
feature films at this year's Festival on the CounterCorp website
<www.countercorp.org/countercorp-festival.htm>, including our newly-
announced closing night film, the San Francisco premiere of "This
Land Is Your Land" (see below) as well as a link to purchase a full-
festival pass online <http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/22093>.
We will be adding the short films, guest speakers, and links to
purchase advance tickets to individual films online tonight. In the
meantime, here's the description for our final feature:
THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND -- A startling, often hilarious exploration of
the corporate takeover of American life. The filmmakers traveled
across the U.S. interviewing award-winning authors, historians, media
pundits, and ordinary citizens about the impact of corporate power on
nearly every aspect of people’s daily lives, our social fabric, and
the principles of democracy. The film celebrates small acts of
resistance by everyday citizens in unique, funny, and inspiring ways.
Directed by Lori Cheatle and Daisy Wright (82 minutes, 2006).
For those of you in the Bay Area, you can see our ad in the most
recent edition of the SF Bay Guardian (p.28). We are also
anticipating items on the Festival in *next* week's Bay Guardian, SF
Weekly, and the Chronicle's "96 Hours" weekend event pull-out
section, as well as the Flavorpill arts and culture website and e-
mail. And, for those of you who don't like to read, you can see
Festival director John Wilner interviewed on "SF Live", a local cable
access TV program on Comcast Channel 76 at 5:30 p.m.
Please help us spread the word by forwarding information about the
Festival to your friends, family, colleagues, and associates, as well
as to any e-mail lists, blogs, or social networking websites that
you're involved in. We have also posted a PDF version of an 8.5 x 11
flyer announcing the Festival on the CounterCorp website (in the
right-most column below the details about the Festival location and
tickets). We encourage people to download the flyer, make copies, and
post them in your neighborhood, workplace, and other areas that
people frequent. Practice information promiscuity!
And if you can't come to the Festival this year but would still like
to help support our efforts, you can make a donation online by going to
https://secure.groundspring.org/dn/index.php?id=695
and selecting CounterCorp from the drop-down menu. We appreciate any
amount you can give.
Thanks as always for your support -- we couldn't do any of this
without you!
