From countercorp-news at countercorp.org Tue Aug 26 17:43:22 2008 From: countercorp-news at countercorp.org (CounterCorp News and Events List) Date: Tue, 26 Aug 2008 14:43:22 -0700 Subject: [CounterCorp] Save the dates: 2008 Anti-Corporate Film Festival, Oct. 15-17 Message-ID: <6705BF7F-8531-4648-B815-32FFE4036BAF@countercorp.org> Dear CounterCorp supporter, We're thrilled to announce the dates and venue for the 3rd Annual CounterCorp Anti-Corporate Film Festival. This year's Festival runs Wednesday to Friday, Oct. 15-17, at the Brava Theater Center at 2781 24th Street (@ York) in the Mission District. Some of you may remember the Brava Theater as the venue for several one-night film screenings CounterCorp has done in the past. It's a beautiful theater that used to be a vaudeville and movie house, went out of business and was abandoned, and was later renovated into a non- profit center for all kinds of arts, with a focus on works by and about women. We're very happy to have such a nice space for this year's Festival, and especially one with a more sizable lobby, which is much bigger than the one at the Victoria Theater (where we've held the Festival for the past two years) or other local, independently owned (i.e., non- corporate) theaters we were considering as potential venues. So now that we know when and where this year's Festival will be, the next question is: Will YOU be there? We're hoping to have as many returning Festival goers from past years as possible, along with as many new ones as we can. So please mark the dates down in your calendar, tell your friends and family about it, and post it on any e-mail lists, web calendars, and/ or blogs that you can. Getting the word out is the biggest part of making any event a success, and we can really use your help to grow the audience for this year's CounterCorp Festival. The full program and list of speakers and events will be announced in September, so stay tuned for more information. (If there are any films you think we should know about before this year's program is finalized, please feel free to e-mail us at submissions at countercorp.org.) And if you'd like to get the latest details on the films, times, and speakers for this year's Festival automatically "pushed" to your computer or iPhone/iPod calendar, click on this link: . Finally, please consider making a donation to help us defray the costs of the theater and films for this year's Festival. The Brava Theater Center is an independent non-profit arts organization, and we are happy to support them by paying a substantial fee to use their facilities. Ticket sales cover only about one-third of the Festival expenses, which means we need to fundraise to cover the remaining two-thirds of the our budget. We are an all-volunteer organization, which means none of the people who works on the Festival gets for their time and effort in organizing and presenting it. We would greatly appreciate any contribution you can make to help us continue to build and improve the Anti-Corporate Film Festival every year. To donate online, go to and select "CounterCorp" from the drop-down menu. To donate by mail, send checks (made out to "CounterCorp") to: CounterCorp Anti-Corporate Film Festival 2017 Mission Street, 2nd Floor San Francisco, CA 94110 Contributions to CounterCorp are tax-deductible. Thanks as always for your support -- we couldn't do any of this without you! See you at the Festival! John Wilner Director
